Wow! I didn’t realize that the first of the two admitted students day is tomorrow. Welcome to Pomona College, if it’s your first time, and even if you’ve been here before, thank you for coming back to visit. The high for tomorrow is 77, and it’s going to be sunny.
I think it’d be really nice to have this thread for tips/advice/experiences about making the most of your day. Many parents used this thread last year to meet each other/reflect. Also, it’d be nice to hear what your general impressions were, good or bad. I’m sure many who couldn’t make it would love to hear.
My 3 personal recommendations:
A) Please take a stroll through the Claremont Village if you haven’t been here. It’s on the west side of Pomona College. It’s filled to the brim with charming restaurants and stores. A good time to go would be after the program ends and the sun begins to set.
B) Go to SkySpace at night (a current student can help direct you there). No spoilers- just see for yourself what it is. Also, if you have the time, whether or not you’re an art/math major, check out the newly constructed studio arts building and Millikan Hall. They’re so beautiful and have great study spaces all students go to.
C) Walk through the neighboring colleges! They are definitely part of the experience, and it helps seeing how close and accessible they are by doing it yourself. The other colleges are not covered extensively in admitted students day, so you definitely should visit. Here is a map: http://www.cuc.claremont.edu/maps/tccmap.pdf You can also get a paper copy at the admissions office. One of my favorite places to go to is the Kravis Center in CMC (just a block north of Pomona). You can take the elevator during business hours to the topmost floor and get soaring aerial views of the colleges. It’s truly breathtaking.
