If you don't mind me asking, for all the students who were admitted, why do you think you were? I know that good stats aren't enough. So, what's yer guess?

Dad and brother Graduated from cmc, recruited for 2 varsity sports

my hook is that i'm an upper middle class white chick from dirty jersey. i dont know if "hooks" are necc... i just did well in school or whatever and did a lot of extra extra c.s oh yeah, that there was that finding a cure for AIDS. but, you know. ndb, right?

basically same as julia, with small exceptions...

i'm from wisconsin...and only one other girl from WI currently goes to CMC (not from my high school). perfect score on ACT writing. really really good essays (common app and supp). intern for russ feingold.

hmm recruited athlete, 5 letters of rec, summer intern and camp counselor

Recruited athlete, my coach is an alum, extra letters of rec, really great interview

sorry, that was me.

"intern for russ feingold." im so jealous!!! i love him he's so cute & he seems like such a good guy. plus... i really appluad him for taking a stand against Bush.

yay! did you see him on john stewart? he was pretty awesome. anywhoo... i am good student and have good scores but i am also very involved in politics & int'l stuff... i take chinese and went to china last summer, plus i have interned on two political campaigns (kerry, cantwell :))

After researching colleges my son's freshman year we decided CMC was a perfect match. Later, a Princeton Review search turned out the same result. He took every opportunity to make and maintain contact with CMC - visited classes, interviewed there Junior year, attended information sessions at his high school and nearby city, filled in coach's questionnaires, sent a cd of his music performance, asked for information, etc. In addition, he immersed himself in summer studies in economics and government and ended up winning an essay contest, which might have helped considerably.

When they asked on the supplement what schools you were also appying to, did any of you say an ivy. I'm applying to a couple and I put them down so I wonder if this contributed in waitlisting me. The only thing is, I'd turn down any ivy to go to CMC :(

half hispanic from MA w/ lots of leadership and ECs

i put down ivys...and they let me in!

feingold rocks my socks too guys! he was great on jon stewart. my pic with him is probably in my top 5 most prized possessions....still haven't washed my hand since he shook it....(jk jk). How exciting is this-- not only had Feingold heard of CMC, he has also visited for some Rhodes Scholar thing! I was SO HAPPY! No one in WI knows what CMC is!

also-my interviewer said i had the best answer he had ever heard to one of the questions.

Is it pretty competitive to get into CMC? you guys have some good things to tell.. recruited athlete, interns, passion, good ecs..

yeah it's competitive! only 19% of early decision applicants were accepted....i think that's pretty competitive.

I think so. My interviewer said they were looking at 17% acceptance rate this year. Sounds competitive to me!

19%? That's very competitive. Sad is that CMC values leadership Soooo much.. I have not been in any leadership positions... would that hurt in an application to CMC?

not having leadership probaby will hurt, to be honest. but.. do you like leading? i think that most of the cmc students are the type who lead because they like to, love taking charge, loving getting their hand dirty. not to say that there's anything wrong with those who shy away from the spotlight.. it just might mean that cmc isn't right for you. or maybe it is.

they also stress "leadership POTENTIAL" so don't throw away hope yet. look for creative ways to show leadership. just because you're not president of student council, football captain....did you start a program...were you the firs to do something at your school...anything?

i think the leadership makes somewhat sense, since one student admitted from my school definately is. the other isn't, at all. however, I would've thought I had enough leadership and a strong enough app, but i got waitlisted. better that way since i wouldn't have attended in the end.

they really are building a class since it's so small. quite interesting to see this.
