Scholarships everyone’s avoiding that.

I think everyone’s avoiding it because its not true. -__- There is no evidence of a scholarship unless they are planning on surprising the students who actually attend the program at the end of the summer. I don’t know but I doubt there is a full scholarship. Also @calibro, there is no proof that we have to live together for the next four years. Ha, I’d rather not do that and Im sure the office knows that. As previously stated, this program at tripp hall is only for the summer. This is why we are given the option to choose our own dorms through the housing website. I’m positive that they would have clearly stated the fact that we’d be living in Tripp Hall all 4 years if that was actually the case. But it’s not, so I wouldn’t fret about it.

I don’t think there is a scholarship either from what I’ve read. It looks like its just called a ‘scholars’ program.

The question is whether you qualify for the scholarship coming into the program the summer before college. Call someone and ask. I know students at my son’s HS who are doing the pre-college activities and they definitely will get the scholarship.

It may seem insulting to some of you if you are OOS, but if you are from WI, you know that minorities in this state have very bad outcomes and the university is doing whatever it can to try to help turn that around. Minorities come to campus and oftentimes feel isolated and overwhelmed. I don’t know what is going on if they are putting high stats minorities into the targeted group along with everyone else. My guess is they are trying to build a base and natural peer group kids can turn to IF THEY WANT TO. None of the later stuff is mandatory I’m sure. If you don’t need that, then that’s fine.

There is very very little scholarship money at UW for non-URMs, so you might feel a tiny bit grateful to have the opportunity to go to school there for the cost of rm/bd. If you have other plans for the summer, some other awesome summer programs or travel with family or whatever, then turn them down.

Or maybe they give you this scholarship?? Full tuition + book stipend.

I qualify for that fingers crossed ^Thank you. I got. Full ride to texas a&m but I don’t want to go their. Ugh this sucks. Help me wisconsin. Go badgers

You need to call someone in FA/scholarships and talk to them to see what you need to do to get one of these scholarships, if anything. The Chancellor’s seems to have a special app and deadline is past, but maybe they extend it. Anyone who wants money and doesn’t have some document from UW expressly granting them the money needs to follow up and figure out what is going on.

If you accept the acceptance offer to UW-M with the AAP (Academic Advancement Program), you have to participate in a 7 week summer bridge. The site titled Center for Academic Excellence states “Students benefit from small classes and specialized academic support while settling into campus and building close friendships with a diverse group of scholars. Students get a head start on earning UW credits for graduation and learn the skills needed to succeed at UW-Madison.” Moreover, http://www.peopleprogram.wisc.edu/collegescholars.html this scholarship might be involved but i’m not sure. But, UW-Madison is one of my top schools and I don’t feel insulted when they have placed me in this program. They want to give the minority a chance really so i’m glad. Go Badgers!
