I see several post about not getting into Engineering and trying to get in. I have a different issue. I did not know what I wanted to do when I applied and choose General and got into General Engineering. Now I m thinking about Mechanical or Eng Physic--can anyone tell me about the process to transfer? the Requirements? Chances? Any information would be helpful. I got accepted at CM into anything but Computer--but it cost much more and hope that I can be successful at Uof I

Chances are much greater for an intra-college transfer than for either a U of I inter-college transfer, or an external transfer. As for specifc details of the intra-college transfer process, I’d call the Undergraduate Programs office at Engineering Hall.

I dont think youll be able to transfer right away, but if you want the quickest way to transfer, you should get the best grades you can in the general engineering courses, especially calculus. that will definitely show them that your a good worker and you should be able to get into the harder engineering majors. it doesn’t take pure intelligence to do well in engineering; it takes hard consistent work (and some intelligence). good luck!

Agree with engineer9011. Son started in general engineering, got good grades, transferred to comp. eng. after spring grades freshman year became available. I don’t know about mech., there are some overall caps on the number of majors. He is now a sophomore.

Remember to advocate for yourself, it is a big bureaucracy! He tried to switch before spring grades were available, and was told to wait for spring grades.

Good luck. Great opportunities await.
