I have been admitted to UCI as a transfer student for Winter 2009 as a political science major. I have completed my igetc, I have over 60 units completed, and I have finished almost all of my prerequisites for my major, except for one political science course. I am considering dropping the calculus class that I am taking, but I am not sure what will happen if I do. I am not doing well in this course, I have a D/D+ and it is only getting worse. I was taking the calculus course because it would have replaced a math course that I would have had to take at UCI. I have emailed the admissions office and they have not replied to my email yet (it has been over a week). I was wondering if I would have my admissions taken away if I were to drop this class and if anyone else has gone through a similar situation?

Is there any way you can take it pass/fail? If you're having trouble with community college calc taking a similar class at UCI is probably going to be even worse so if at all possible it's probably best to get it over with. I'd call UCI and explain your situation. What's your current gpa?

Btw, I feel your pain with the calc class. Horrible, horrible, horrible.

I can't take it pass or fail. It is either take statistics (which I already took and got a B) and calculus or take a year of statistics for social science majors at UCI. My gpa right now is a 3.2.

Not all classes at UC are harder than CC. In fact, i've been noticing that they've been a tad bit easier.

Hey Latron,
Im in the exact situation you were in when you posted. I wanted to know what ended up happening…
I have been accepted to transfer to UCI (psychology) for the fall but I have a D in applied calculus right now… I am considering dropping and re-taking the class this summer but I am worried if I drop UCI will revoke their offer of admission to me.
Let me know what happened in your case. I emailed admissions counselors but have not heard back.

Best,
D

If this is a class that is within your provisional agreement, then your admission could be revoked! If not, then I’m still not sure because the agreement should say you have to get a C or better in every class… and not fall below a 3.0, I have heard cases where one of my friends got a C- and she got revoked from Cal. Hopefully UCI isn’t as strict as Cal. [:

Best of luck to you both!

I wish I would have taken Statistics before Calculus…X__X;;

I am in a similar situation. I have a TAG, doing horrible in calculus at the moment. If I dont pass I think Ill be just a bit below 60 units. Is it possible to take the class in the summer? I have heard that UCI allows students take summer courses at cc before the fall they enroll.
