Hey guys. I think I've asked this before, but I never got a definite answer. I was recently admitted to UCLA as political science major. On my UC application I listed that I would be taking STATISTICS during the SUMMER at UCR. However, due to my lack of math prereqs, I can not register for the course. Although I found some Community College's that offer the course, I am not sure if they articulate to UCLA.

3 Questions:

If I can't take the statistics course during the summer, and turn in the proper course change forms right now, what are the chances my admissions get revoked?

If UCLA decides to rescind me for not taking the course, and I end up finding a way to take the course after their decision is made, what happens to my admissions status then?

If I decide to take the Stats course at a CC instead of at UCR, can my admissions get revoked for that?

I don’t think anyone has the definitive answer to this. Best solution would be to call and ask.

I called admissions 4 times. This was there response: “We do not answer hypotheticals.” Basically in order for them to make a decision, I need to turn in the Course Change form. My only concern / worry is that if they do revoke my admissions for not taking the course, what will happen if I find a way to take it later?

Your best bet is to register for the articulated course at a CC and then notify them.

If you can’t take it, you BETTER have a really good reason why you can’t take it…but even then I think your admissions will most likely be revoked.

Do you need the stats class?

@smcguy can you explain your rationale for why I would get rescinded for not taking stats during the summer?

@kobeftw I’m assuming Stats is a pre-req for Poli Sci and your transferable math. Did you complete a class like Algebra or Calculus that will satisfy the math requirement? If so, then missing a pre-req might not be so bad. Just make sure you have a really good reason for not taking the planned Stats course.

Side note… There was a case where this girl’s admission was revoked because she failed to take a planned math course in spring. Well she explained that she had major family problems…she promised to take it during the summer and her admission was reinstated.

@smcguy I am currently taking my college algebra class right now, and am using it fulfill my math requirement. I don’t know what other reason I could give except that I simply can not register for Stats class because in order to register for Stats I need to have passed Math 5 when I am only in Math 4. Is that a good enough reason? Shoot man. I am so nervous about this. I really appreciate your advice.

Is Stats being used to fulfill a prereq? From what I see on assist.org the closest thing I can see is Intro to Statistical Reasoning being part of the PoliSci major. In that case, no CC is gonna have an equivalent to that course.

On the UCLA political science website it says that stats is one of the required classes to take. But as you said, there aren’t that many community colleges that have a stats class that articulates to UCLA. So that prob means that you can get accepted into UCLA poly sci without having to take a stats class. I dont know what to do…

This is bull**** I submitted my form last Monday and still didn’t receive **** the admissions office are useless

I’m not sure if this helps or not, but assist says the course must be completed at UCLA?

The only CC I found that offers it so far is SMC (Math 54) which has a prereq of Intermediate Algebra.

Since it is a prereq for your major, I think you might run the chance of being rescinded if you don’t take it. Although I don’t know for sure.
