hey everyone, I received my acceptance letter yesterday and was exstatic. so if i dont get into Tufts or GU, I have an awesome school to go to. If anyone knows which school would be better for poli sci/intl relations, U of M or GWU in DC?

Congratulations PP. For Political Science, Michigan is ranked #2 in the nation, behind only Harvard. For American Politics, Michigan is ranked #1.

As for IR, Michigan does not offer such a major. So you are going to have to decide what you want to major in. If you want to major in IR, Georgetown should be your first choice, closely followed by Tifts. If PS is your intended major, Michigan should be your firsts choice.

I would add that U-M had initiated a really interesting "internship in Washington" program. U-M has always had good connections there which students could take advantage of, but didn't have a formal program designed to get students with poli sci and government interests there. Now they do. If you're wondering about GWU's geographical advantage as far as access to federal government opportunities goes, U-M just closed that gap a good bit.

Alexandre.. I am particularly interested in pursuing a Russian East European Studies Major. I know that U-M has a very strong Slaviv Language Dept so I want to utilizie this to the full. Do you know anything about this dept in terms of the faculty and students who pursue this major? So in terms of internships do you think that studying at Michigan wont compromise my chances?

I am not sure PP. I know Michigan is excellent in Russian and Slavic studies, but I am really not sure about internship opportunities. You will have to do some research.
