Anyone going to ADOCH? Brown offered to pay for my expenses, and so did Dartmouth for Dimensions. I have FBLA States Conference those SAME days. I know both ADOCH and Dimensions are on similar days, but are they worth it for me to p*** ** my advisor and tell him the $200 used to reserve my room is…well out the window?

Whoa, how did Brown offer you an all-expenses paid trip!?

They should be doing that for EVERYONE.

No, they shouldn't (pay for it, I mean).

Some people can't pay for it. And the kids who can shouldn't soak up the budget (despite its hugeness) if they're not even sure they're going to go there 100%. And there's no way Brown can verify the fullness of the desire to attend their school unless the student has already matriculated/enrolled/blah blah blah.

But yeah, if I were you, I'd visit Brown over anything.

But then again, I have no love for FBLA whatsoever.

Brown is my TOP choice, and I CAN'T pay for it. I'm informing my advisor tomorrow that I can't go to FBLA (which i have no love for either, i just showed up and took the test and somehow got 1st haha). In my area FBLA is just too loosely organized to have anything done, and it must have soaked up 30 bucks in fees alone.

Sorry, dyx, I didn't mean to say that Brown shouldn't pay for you ticket, I was just referring to the post below you stating that Brown should pay for everybody's.

Which they shouldn't.

opps, sorry for my misunderstanding

Wow dyx! We're totally in the same boat lmao! Brown and Dartmouth here for me too. And I think I'm going to ADOCH for Brown, and Dartmouth another time (not Dimensions).

Also, I've been to FBLA State (TX) and Nationals (Denver + Disneyland!) for the past two years! Haha, just thought I'd tell you. Funny coincidence :)

dartmouth v. brown for me too!

mac, are you backing out of dimensions bc adoch and dimensions overlap? bc i'm going to both and scheduling both visits hasnt been too much of a problem

Hey dyx, first of all congrats on having Brown pay full expenses for your trip to ADOCH!

My family's EFC is extremely low, so I'm receiving a lot of financial aid from Brown. However, they did not offer to pay for my transportation to ADOCH...I live on the other coast, and can't afford to pay for a plane ticket there and back, even if I empty my entire savings account. I called the Admissions office to ask if they could help out financially, and they told me their budget does not allow for them to pay for students visiting the college before matriculating. I guess they were not being completely truthful with me, as you say they've offered to pay for you.

How did they approach you about this? I would really like to visit Brown during ADOCH, but at this rate it looks like I won't be going anywhere near Brown before September.

I think they're paying for certain minorities to go to ADOCH for free. In my case, I can pay to go to ADOCH but they're paying for me to go regardless (I'm black). I definately don't agree with this practice but tons of schools do it. Good luck trying to get to ADOCH, lewis! If you can't make it then I hope to see you in september!

Okay. Thanks for letting me know fut18000. I'm an ORM. ;) It's all good...my family's been going through some tough times recently, but I haven't lived my whole life like this so I can't complain. Admissions suggested I go to a local admitted students reception/party if I can't make ADOCH, so I'll look into that. Hope to see you all in September :D

Wednesday, no I didn't back out of Dimensions because it overlapped with Brown. Actually at this rate, I'd probably pick Dimensions over ADOCH xP, but it's my school (the one of the iron fist) that won't let me go for more than 2 days... So ADOCH works out with my school policy as long as I don't go to TWW :D

lewis, I'm an "ORM" as well. Maybe your EFC just wasn't as low as you thought comparably? I do hope you can find some way to make it though!

Well, it's harder to get a lower EFC than the one I got...a big fat goose egg. The only reason I have internet access is because I live in a university subsidized apartment, and my computer's 5 years old.

Lol, well I feel silly now.
