"Adult" auditioner

Hi All,

It's been several years since I have posted on this board. It's such a strange feeling to be back!

As a high school senior, I was accepted to Berklee College of Music - but no MT program. And to make a very long story short, my fin. aid fell through and I was unable to find a credit worthy cosigner to get loans. It has been almost five years since I graduated - and now at the rip old age of 22 (almost 23), I will be able to audition next year for MT programs. FAFSA will count me as an independent (FINALLY!!), and I will get that college degree i've always wanted.

I'm posting here, because I feel like the game is different now that I'll be almost six years older than the average auditioner. Has anyone ever done this before? or heard of this being done before?

Any thoughts would be helpful - Thanks!

I am 20, almost 21, and going in as a Freshman. In my program there is a 30 year old man who will be a sophomore next year. So it isn’t unheard of.

JustConfused is of course right - but some programs will be much more open to this than others, so do your research carefully and ask the departments! If you get a reluctant vibe from a particular department, my advice would be not to waste your time auditioning at that program. BoCo and CMU are 2 schools that are definitely open to students who are a bit older the 18-20. FYI for other readers even older students (closer to 30) usually come in either with professional credits or extraordinary talent and rare marketability (aka men, ethnic performers); I know BoCo recently had one of those. Good luck!!! :)
