Advance Placement Exams

Quick Question:

I am enrolled in the IB Diploma Program, but was wondering if you get AP credit if you do well on the Advanced Placement Examenations, which is available at my high school?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the school, but I most definitely got 8 units for taking the AP Lit test, and I didn't take the AP Lit class (I took IB English). However, some schools won't give you credit if the tests are the same (like they won't give you double credit for taking the AP and IB English tests). Other schools don't even give out IB credit (or much credit anyways), so taking the AP tests equivalent to your classes can be a good idea. Or, my school gives out credit for IB, but IB tests won't satisify certain requirements (like the language requirement) so taking the AP test in German might have been a good idea.

Usually it's just a waste of money to take the AP test that matches. I know people who took AP tests in random subjects (self taught themselves the material). But please don't do that to yourself.

Look at the policies of the schools you're thinking of going to. If they will give you the credit, take the ap tests.
