Advantages to Early Decision

I was thinking about doing ED II to CAS, but what advantages are their exactly to it aside from the fact that I get my results earlier and I might get into a special program easier(not applying to any “special program” btw). NYU said the acceptance rate between regular and ED II is the same as well as the average GPA and test scores but do you guys know if NYU does actually make it easier to get in somehow with lower test grades and GPA?

@hammad22 I’m super confused by the whole concept of ED II. As you stated, NYU clearly says there is not benefit in increasing your chances of admission with early decision (however, I’m not totally sure this is true… according to Naviance at my school the scores and gpa were lower of students accepted early than regular). Also you have to submit all of the other applications at the same time anyway. I don’t see why you wouldn’t just apply to NYU regular and then to a range of other schools (reach schools above NYU) and safer schools (below NYU). This way if you do get into a reach school you still have the option to attend.

I know an extra month or two of waiting seems really horrible… but I think it would be worth those two months of agony than living in regret of seeing if you get into any reach schools.

Although NYU states that ED does not affect acceptance rate, the ED pool is generally weaker than the RD pool. However for ED 2, I am not sure how much this will affect you.

ED will always provide you with a better chance, because you’re commiting to the school more than RD. Admission officers always have a deep-kept fear that students won’t attend if they are admitted, especially those with stronger applications.

But it won’t be beneficial financially, because NYU knows you love the school, they won’t need to give you any crazy sum of money to attract you to the place.

That’s what I think at least.

@deller123 does ur school naviance show data for ED II as well?
