Advertising a good field?

Is advertising a good field in business to go into? Is it difficult to get jobs in nowadays?

I’ve got the same question. I’m currently in my last year of my business degree with a MARKETING emphasis and having a lot of second thoughts. My marketing 300 teacher said she “felt sorry” for us marketing majors.

maybe she felt bad because the economy is bad as a whole? I hope advertising is up, I feel like it is, I mean advertisements are everywhere nowadays.

Marketing majors at my alma mater and at a lot of schools I know of, go work in…SALES.

Business marketing majors learn zero tangible skills. It is the journalism, graphic design, art, etc. majors that go work for advertising firms. The reason is because these people spend their college careers doing creative work and marketing majors learn about the technical aspects of marketing.

Ask yourself: How many creative things have you done to put on a resume or in a portfolio that would be attractive to a marketing firm? Go and look-up a marketing firm, read the bios of the execs, and see how many majored in marketing.

Like I said, majority of marketing majors end up in sales positions. This isn’t a bad place to start, but the competitive marketing firm positions aren’t being filled by marketing majors.

Even though I only need 12more classes to gett my marketing BA, I think I’m switching to either management or finance. Good idea to do so late into the degree?

Answer to op first question-no and second yes. Period…

would it be a good idea to double major in marketing and advertising? Would that give me the creativity and business background?
