advertising as a major ?

I'm really interested in advertising. Do other normal orthodox business degrees have advertising as a subject ? Which are the top colleges for advertising ?ANY insight about advertising as a major/subject/minor will be appreciated. Thanks

I think advertising is one of the components of marketing. So choose a marketing major and within that choose courses that focus on advertising would be a more meaningful in terms of breadth and depth knowledge base required in the job market. Advertising in itself would narrow your career options and I think you should be able to cast a wider net in the job market by picking up a major like marketing, management or communictaions. You should read more about it to help you understand and make up your mind about the route you would want to take to finally focus on advertisisng.

Advertising is something you can learn on the job, no need to take loads of courses in. I would choose economics, finance, accounting as majors since they are more broad and more marketable. You can apply for an advertising job with those majors also.

Thanks that was really helpful :)

You can go for a Business Administration degree, but more specifically, a [Public Relations and Advertising](http://www.ccis.edu/day/academics/majorrequirements.asp?Public+Relations+and+Advertising&utm_campaign=FRM001&utm_id=FRM001) major. This will get you prepared for all aspects of business, but focus you on advertising. As previously mentioned, you could also go for a Marketing[/url”>http://www.ccis.edu/day/academics/majorrequirements.asp?Marketing&utm_campaign=FRM001&utm_id=FRM001]Marketing major. Let us know what you decide!

Just to add - any business/econ related major you decide should also offer some marketing and advertising electives. So while you may not choose to major in Marketing, you can still take the electives that interest you and relate to Advertising!

I was an Advertising Major at Penn State. I took a lot of classes that were specific and helpful - copywriting, media planning, campaign management, etc. I also had a lot of flexibility and took marketing, economics, and writing classes outside of advertising (magazine writing, for example.) Take a look at the classes involved in each major to decide whether marketing (more of a business emphasis) or advertising (more of a creative emphasis) would work for you.

Advertising is usually part of marketing or in rarer cases - business management.
