Writing this for the second time so if it seems very rushed, my apologizes. I am currently a student at American University and I am a freshman majoring in Political Science. Due to many personal and mental reasons, I feel like the best option for me moving forward is to transfer out of American into a different university. I don’t fit in with the social scene at American, I want more of a college/university feel rather than it feeling like a business and I want to start fresh somewhere new. My stats in high school aren’t the best, I applied testing-optional to American so my SAT is only 1000. My GPA was a 3.0, we didn’t have a weighted scale so it was only a 3.0. I have many extracurriculars however under my belt, I was the Speech & Debate captain for two years, and worked as a treasurer for one. Participated in many national tournaments. I worked on a fundraiser during my junior year to help fund research in fighting blood cancer. Went to Peru my sophomore year to help underprivileged communities and built a knitting factory. I had honor roll for 4 years straight and got the history award for the last 2 years, the award is given to students who have a strong demonstration of certain topics, for me it was history and government. This is an extreme SparkNotes version of what my 4 years were like but if you have any questions I can gladly answer them. For my first semester, my GPA is 3.3. I am hoping to bring this up next semester to at least a 3.7 or higher. I am working for the House of Representatives next semester as an intern, and I’m also part of the rowing team. Right now, I am just asking for advice or suggestions on what I should do next or where I should think about applying. I was looking into UNC-Chapel Hill, it fits everything that I want from a university but I know it an extreme reach for me. But something similar works, just want to hear some advice and suggestions. American really doesn’t help their students out with transferring which makes sense but I just feel lost with this whole process. Comments, suggestions, anything, will be appreciated. Thanks.
