Cant find answers to my questions

Well I’ll start off saying I am a senior in high school and my GPA is 2.3 on a scale of 4.0. I am going to a community college to raise my GPA in hopes to transfer to another school, I would love to go American University. I am afraid that I am kidding myself about the idea of going to American University after two years of community. So baisicly my questions are:

1) Am I fooling myself or could I be able to raise my GPA in that time?

2) Will I be able to try and transfer after the first year or no?

3) What is the process to transfer to American University?

Thanks for your help!!!

I’m not a transfer student (or a transfer applicant), but I believe I can answer you questions:

1.) You never know unless you try. From what I understand, for transfer applicants, your college GPA will become more important than your high school GPA. If you apply yourself, I am sure you will do well.

2.) I believe you can transfer after one year.

3.) That is all on american.edu

Good luck

There are plenty of colleges that love to have transfers from students who have done well in college level work. Just read the fine print to make sure that all of the courses you take in CC will transfer to the 4 year colleges where you want to apply, and try to coordinate your coursework with their requirements for the major you want. Find a set of colleges where you could be happy, and don’t be obessed with any one college.

You don’t have to “raise” your GPA - you get a fresh start in CC. If you apply yourself, a 3.0+ is very doable.

To make up for that 2.3 GPA you’ll need about 24 credits. Plan on transferring after 2 years (3.3+), or for Spring 2012. Good luck! Although American tends to be a little more linient (you can transfer with 3 credits, for example). I would call Admissions and ask, they’re very helpful.

I’m transferring this year, the process is pretty basic, just look at the website. Common app, essay, high school stats, college stats, etc, etc.
