Hi,
I see that Trojan Parents Weekend is tentatively set for October 1-3. I am curious about any advice others can offer regarding events we should attend vs. those we can miss. Is it necessary to be there first thing Friday morning? Thanks. Fight on!

The FOOTBALL game!!!

It is fun even for those who are not, in other circumstances, football fans.

Hey CJC…
I would expect we’ll be receiving detailed information sometime this summer and on the Trojan Parents link. We’re new to the Trojan family, but having attended other parents weekends…we’ll just go with the flow & be sure to catch a few of our daughter’s classes in her favorite area of interest…& certainly the football game. Up to now, I’ve cursed the Trojans…now I are one!

Parent weekend is certainly an event not to be missed. First, it is timed as a good time to see your child again after leaving them in August. I remember Sunday of that weekend and seeing all the parents around McCarthy quad saying goodbye and “words of wisdom” with their kids. For some reason, it made me feel better to see that we were all going through this together.

There are workshops and lectures to attend that help acclimate you to the Trojan Nation–don’t miss the one by Dr. Bartner and the Trojan Marching band especially if you used to hate the Trojans–that session helps explain why and what you have to do now to support your child’s new school! I graduated from UCLA so believe me–it was a good session to at least get insight into “that song”. Definitely go to the football game–that is the ultimate Trojan nation bonding experience!

I am sure the dates are set, get hotel reservations, take the days off work and go. I met parents from all over the USA. My d. will be a senior next year and it is already on our calendar.

Haha! I LOVED the Trojan cheering lessons! And all the parents. You will not believe how nice EVERYONE is.

This event is so much fun! Besides you can use it as an excuse to bring some cookies from home to your student. You can even attend a class with them.

First, thanks for all of the great information. Looking forward to the weekend. The USC information lists a start time of 7:30am Friday. Is it really necessary to be there at 7:30am? We are driving down from the Bay Area, hoping to arrive early Friday afternoon. What will we miss?

In the summer, the Parent website will post all the workshops so you can see what will be offered on Friday. I would definitely drive down on Thursday and be there Friday morning for the workshops, breakfasts, lunches and such. There are exhibits and if your child has class, you can go to class with them. My d’s freshmen year it actually started on Thursday morning through the weekend and I wondered if USC understood the definition of “weekend”. I enjoyed the workshops and activities for parents and being that it is cut down from 4 to 3 days, I think they have a lot to offer.

I do remember that after going to Explore USC and Orientation, going yet again to all the workshops, I thought would be redundant, but they weren’t and it was fun.
