Advice for 2007 transfer student

After acceptances, waitlists and garanteed transfer acceptences I’ve decided on a school for the 2006-2007 academic calendar.

Meanwhile, I intend on pursing the transfer option for next year. I graduate in like 3 days, and would like to know what things (if there is anything) I will need from my high school before leaving, the main reasons being I’ll be quite far away from my school with virtually no access to them than by mail, my school is undergoing a major overhaul, my guidance counsellor for the past few years is leaving this year.

Next year, I want to apply to 2 of the schools in which I was waitlisted this year (my top choices), and 2 new schools (I think-- not sure yet, maybe 1). The schools that have offered me the transfer admissions acceptance have outlined their required courses, and I am going to try to find out from somewhere (although I am not sure where-- any advice would be appreciated) the requirements for the other schools. I am going to be selecting my courses soon and want to make my selections in a way that I get the most bang for my money so to say.

I am looking for any advice in general from successful transfer students. In terms of calendar dates, difference between HS and college applications, financial aid and so on.

(Thank you an eternity+1 AND a cookie for any helpful tips that will make this process as painless as possible.) :)

Come on. If you want help, you have to give us some information. What schools are you applying to? How are your grades, etc. It's impossible to guide you when the message you left is so vague.

i agree...

From what, I've noticed on this board, alot of people that transferred successfully has these qualities.

range of 3.5-4.0 in college

high sat/ act scores

unique activities

My advice to is take SAT II subject tests and do very well to make you competitive. It depends on your situation if you had great grades and sat scores essays were your problem. Meaning, that in your essays you didn't show humility instead you were a bit to cocky and arrogant. If you had low test scores, I strongly advice to retake your tests.

Biggest advice
SHOW NO WEAKNESS ON YOUR APPLICATION

my sat scores were not high at all.. but i took them 4 years ago.

what the heck? usc, i completely and totally and utterly disagree with you there. i think showing weakness and how you have capitalized on your opportunities in overcoming that weakness and surpassing your previous expectations puts you in a MUCH better character standing then someone who's all like 'oh yeah dude im a boss'

Thanks NerdyUSCgurl. :)

Do people usually retake the SATs and SATIIs for higher scores? I imagined that by then, based on college GPA the school would assume that you already know everything. Do they even need SAT scores?

In addition, since I am going to a new city for next academic year I'll have to drop a lot of my ex.currs. and start anew (with some of the same things, and some fun new things that I've recently gotten to--) over there. I imagine they understand right? They won't expect the "longevity" factor anymore.

I was general because I wasn't really asking for advice on which schools to apply to and so on, I am not sure what you need, my profile isn't stellar but pretty good/solid. I had good recommendartions, and I wrote good essays and had good interviews. I was waitlisted to to several ivies and other schools, and I think it wasn't anything in particular in my profile that was a specific let-down, but just overall I was, in my opinion, kinda dull, I didn't shine, I didn't pour my heart and soul in the application and I got what I gave. But that's becuase I didn't really believe that I could achieve what I have-- until I realized that-- well I did, so now I believe in myself and what I can do, a lot more, and I believe that with my newfound strength and confidence I'll be a much stronger candidate next year.

Anyways, it's REALLY important that I have this answered tonight, because school's closing shortly...

1. Meanwhile, I intend on pursing the transfer option for next year.
Do you need guidance/teacher recs for transfer applications? What about transcripts, can I get sealed transcripts from the school and send them myself as they are needed? Is there anything else you think I'd need from my school.

thanks!
