Hi, I’m an incoming freshman that recently has been kind of iffy on some specifics on college applications. I’m pretty clear on my classes and what my uw and weighted gpa should be, my SAT/ACT/etc, essays, and recommendations, but honestly kind of concerned on my EC’s being deemed too “asian” to get into Columbia, which is my dream school. I do a few EC’s right now.
First, I do debate, which I’ve been doing since I was 10. I’ve had a great run in middle school, as I’ve been to 33 nationals, and placed in two. I’m super pumped about debate in high school! Second, I do competition math. I plan to qualify for AIME and math prize for girls all four years of hs. I also want to make some form of math olympiad twice by the end of my 11th grade year. Third, I do violin, which I’ve been playing since I was 5. I have a few high ambitions that I want to work toward in the next two years such as the Pennsylvania Music Festival, and making top seats in All-State and my local city orchestra. Fourth, I’m currently researching metastasis of cancerous tumors in the human body, and I’m planning on entering the Siemens in 10th grade or later and also the TTU Clark competition.
I also have some clubs that I’m super interested in, like Young Democrats, NHS, Key Club, Quizbowl, Chinese Club (lol), and Red Cross.
In the end, I just really want some advice as to how ivy league admissions in general work, and whether or not I should start something new that’s “less Asian” in high school.
(I’m a Asian female btw, that’s at a moderately competitive school with 1000+ in my grade)
