Advice for a future Education Process Coach

Hi all, I am reading and soaking up all the wisdom on this website.

I am currently a high school counselor and an LPC who specializes / works with students who have issues such as dyslexia and ADHD among others. I am 5 years from retirement and want to open up my own private practice to help families navigate the whole schooling process from the leaps between elementary and middle, middle to high school, and high school to college. I find that the students I serve lack study skills and organizational skills, as well as some soft skills that would help them be more successful.

I have gone through the college admission process with my own children and want to help other families through this process. And I want to add this piece to my coaching ability.

Many families in my area pay big money for SAT/ACT prep tutors and college admissions tutors/mentors/coaches, but they are usually two separate entities. I would like to offer both. I am currently reading and learning more about both.

I have some questions:

  1. What has been most beneficial to you and your family’s college process?
  2. If you used some form of SAT/ACT prep service, what was it and what did you like about it? Would you recommend it above others and why?
  3. What would have helped you and your family through this process?

I want to help families by offering quality and value. I am not looking to “get rich” but to help and provide a service that utilizes my 35 years of experience in public education as educator and counselor.

Thanking you in advance for your generous advice.
