Advice for a UC transfer?

Hey everyone. To make a long story short I did badly this semester.

I am trying to transfer into Cal or LA. I am so confused by the admissions process in my specific case. basically I am came from a out of state 4 year school and transferred to a California community college. I did wonderfully in new York as I had a 4.0 GPA.

However, I had to leave new york because of personal problems with my family and go live with my dad so I came to california. I did badly this semeste (first semester of CCC), basically getting the following grades:

A, English Class
B, Calc 3
Possible A or B, Discrete Math
Possible B or C, intro to comp sci

I still have 2-3 semesters left worth of classes to go before I can apply.

I won’t try to give any justification because I feel it was due to my own laziness and mental issues. I’ll say this much, I was literally to physically tired/weak to study and was recently diosgned with schizophrenia this semester. As a result, I often left exams and assignments for the last minute.

My questions are these:

  1. Is UC Berkeley and LA now an impossibility? (Trying for engineering math and statatics)

  2. how can I bounce back if there is still a chance?

  3. if there is no chance, what should I do from here?

Thanks for reading everybody!

UCB and UCLA are a long shot for everyone - especially as an out of state applicant (which is probably how they will see you)/. A single down semester with a good explanation (family upset, moving across the country included) won’t change your chances much,

When you’ve accumulated the units, I’d encourage you to apply broadly and see what happens. Include UCB and UCLA - but also some CSUs and even privates.

Good luck.

Hey, I thought I would update this. I got my grades now. Its:

Discrete Math-B
Calc 3-B
into to comp sci-C
English-A

My GPA is 2.93 for this semester.
