I think you can drop your contract after a quarter, but I urge you not to. The reason is that your roommate will then get stuck with another random roommate later in the year, and it will just make things harder on them. So if possible, I'd advise you to stay in the dorms all year, or maybe not dorm this year, but do it next year. Good luck!</p>
