how early can you find the books needed for a class in Fall 07

Most are already up through the student store. You can select by course.

You can also google for class websites and check out the course overview. It usually contains textbooks and required materials. Some Fall 07 are already up - most are done in August though.

I am glad you guys are making an effort to connect with us incoming transfers. My friends went to Cal yesterday and actually had a bad experience with other MCB majors, who basically said all they do is study. This seems to have really turned them off in regard to going to Cal, and they seem to be wanting to opt for UCLA. Do any of you find this "we only study" mentality on the campus? I know it is a tough school--and my personal friends there have found a great balance between fun and work, but I keep hearing about the cut throat studying. (I don't mind working, I also want to have a life too..) Industrial Engineering Major here, so not as bad as L&S from what I have read.

Everyone is different. A lot of the engineers claim to only study or at least you don't see them out much. Others don't study at all and play warcraft (or that new one I have no clue about...) all night.

I'm a sophmore who has lived off-campus both years. I go out 3-4 times a week and at first, people are shocked to hear I'm an EECS major. So, its possible to have a social life and perform well.

I think the key is about creating balance. Most engineers are very intelligent and everyone studies as much as they can. That said, studying more DOES NOT always give you higher grades at this school.

I and my friend have spent weeks on projects and missed lecture in another course. Studying about a day from notes, reviewing previous exams, we both got As on the midterm after the curve. My classmates either were impressed or hated me for that...

On the flip side, I know of a person who does not go out, studies 22/7 (they go to the gym the remaining 2 hrs each day) and are on academic probabation. For some reason, they are mentally unable to perform on the exams. I'm not a doctor so I won't go into diagnosis...

I'm a strong believer in balance. Put your time in, study right, go out and meet people, get some good work/research experience in and you'll do fine.

niggit, as a side note. We're in the middle of final exams. So, I doubt you'll find much than "we only study" at any most schools during this time. They should visit UCLA during mid-June to have a fair comparison.

Good point, thanks for the infor skiingfool. I submitted my SIR to Cal yesterday. I am glad to be also close to tahoe, when I need to get outta there and just hit the slopes.

haha. Welcome. Under 3 hours is nice. Hopefully, we'll actually get some snow next year.

Haha yes, in addition to being sick I had a final on Saturday and I studied the entire day in the library. Then I came out to go to my final and there were so many visitors, graduates and their families, plus whatever transfer reception was happening. It was a pretty nice day too...but I was like **** you guys I'm miserable :p

If school was easy, why would we even go? Thanks for the input, I think I am going to make Cal into the best experience I can for myself.

sorry for not following through sooner. had finals then summer school 2 days after. ack

Does any have any info on the mass comm major at Cal. I was accepted for the major, but was also accepted at UCI for literary journalism. Any input? Is one program better than the other?

Could anyone let me know a bit more about admissions to Cal for transfers (GPA's, acceptance rates for colleges or even specific majors, etc.) or post a link to a page with that info. Thx
