Advice for my daughter to better her chances...

We went on a visit this week to IU Bloomington and it seems like a good fit for my daughter. She is a in-state Junior but her GPA falls below the median- she has a 3.3. She had a rough second semester of her sophomore year and she went from a 3.6 to a 3.3. She really struggles in Math so it is not likely to move up much. She gets A's and B's in all other subjects but C's in Math. We are worried that the state schools won't accept her due to her low GPA. We were wondering if she got letters of recommendation from her Math teachers that she works very hard if that would maybe help her? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to get a math tutor? There is a lot of time between now and May to bring her grades up.

Also, when does she plan to take her standardized tests? The higher her scores, the less important her gpa will be. I’d advise taking both the SAT and ACT to see which one she does better on. And, I’d advise her to take them in early 2012 (like Jan/Feb) so she’ll have time to take them over, if necessary.

I think letters of rec from her math teachers attesting to her work ethic would be an action of last resort.

Good luck!
