<p>Yes, in most cases I am opposed to paid tutors as well. For a child that has been tutored through school that child has just been pushed past what is a normal learning level for that child. If a child needs a tutor on a temporary basis-say they were sick and missed a lot of school or needed a little extra help in one area of math for a couple weeks, fine, that is the purpose of a tutor but not something that should be ongoing.</p>
<p>There is no fine line. If a child OCCASIONALLY needs help on homework fine, but if the parents are reviewing homework every night and making corrections, that is NOT a good thing. The teacher needs to be made aware of this. In this case it’s obvious the child is NOT learning from the parent or that information would be transferring over to the tests. Careless numerical mistakes are often because the child knows the parent will fix them or tell them what to fix. Too much parental involvement in homework is NOT a good thing. We are talking about a 6th grader here, not a kindergartner.</p>
