Advice for transferring into Int. Affairs school, please

Hello. I am hoping that some of you will be able to give me sound advice regarding a transfer from community college to a good program. I am looking for something like the International Affairs undergraduate program at the Elliott School at GWU. I am fairly certain I will not get into that school so I was hoping that one of you could perhaps recommend a few other good schools with similar programs. I would also accept a program like Law, Politics, and Society or a political science program that allows me to concentrate on international affairs and possibly would allow for minoring in a separate humanities area. Here are my stats:

-Des Moines Area Community College-
Cum. GPA: 3.56
Prog. GPA: 3.65
Honors: 2 semesters dean's list, 2 semesters president's list, Phi Theta Kappa member
LOR's: Very sound, if I can figure out how to organize and send them out in time
Personal Essays: Obviously subjective and obviously I think mine are pretty good but with no ability to compare
SATs or ACT's: Did not take, will need to transfer into a school like GWU that doesn't require standardized tests after a certain number of college credits
EC's: Precinct Captain and Youth Organizer for the Obama campaign in Des Moines over the summer, college tutor in various subjects for 3 semesters, computer lab assistant for 2 semesters, part-time retail work for 4 years
High School GPA: Abysmal, an utter embarrassment

I will be glad to give any more information that you might need to help give your advice.

Thanks,

what year are you in now?

There are many schools with IR programs that are not super hard to get into. I thought saw on an older previous post that you had taken the ACT and scored a 28...you were worried about your math score, but most colleges only use the composite score. The rest of your scores were quite high. I do think that American University and even GW is worth a try. Georgetown would probably be a far reach as would Tufts. Both Boston University and Northeastern have IR programs as well. There are many more and I can post later after looking at my Scruggs book which has quite a list (about 40 schools). Any place in particular you want/don't want to be?

I'm in my sophomore year now. I'll be transferring in as a junior. It would be much easier for me to stay in Iowa because 2 of the schools here have automatic admission for a 3.5 or above from the community colleges, but I really would prefer a good program out of state. Preferably somewhere warm, but D.C. is probably never a bad choice for an IR major. I liked the idea of GWU because of its location and the internship opportunities but the Elliott school is very hard to transfer into according to my field organizer who graduated from that program. I considered American, but I'm not sure about that yet.
