Hello I am a student majoring in Economics at a community college. I am hoping to transfer to UC Davis or Santa Barbara by using the TAG. I am planning to take all of my GE classes and Microeconomics + Macroeconomics at De Anza. Therefore, I will finish IGETC at De Anza. However, there are some major preparation courses that I need to take as well and I want to take more online classes and some schools don’t have online classes that others do. Here is my plan:
Political Economics at Foothill (Sister college of De Anza).
Financial Accounting at West Valley College.
Calculus II and III (MAYBE) at College 4.
Money isn’t a big concern for me since I had one year of free college in De Anza and I have already maximised all the units (52 units). I am just taking 1 or 2 classes at other colleges since I want to take more online classes and some schools don’t have online classes that others do. None of the courses mentioned above have any prerequisites to them in which I am taking at another school. The only exception is Calculus II in which I have an AP Score from Calculus AB.
Is doing this allowed for transferring to UC campuses since my major preparation classes are spread across 3 to 4 different colleges? Will this have a negative impact when transferring? None of these classes that I am taking at these colleges are part of one continuous series (i.e. Calculus). When I transfer, do I just send all transcripts to De Anza and then use that when transferring? Or do I have to send all of them individually to UC? Thanks!
Hello. So it won’t have a negative affect when transferring to UC, right? Also, do I have to send all of the transcripts from the schools to the UC school? Or do I send the transcripts to De Anza for course substitutions then send only De Anza’s transcript to the UC school?
It will not have a negative impact on an application. You will put down all the schools attended and list the grades that you received when you apply to the UCs.
Once you actually get accepted, you will send your transcripts from every college you attended to whichever school you decide to go to. You do not send transcripts prior to being accepted.
I went to a ton of community colleges in the LACCD district. I took hybrid classes at Los Angeles Valley College and Los Angeles Trade Technical College. My main school was East Los Angeles College, but classes were pretty much always full, so I had to check out other schools. I took online courses at West Los Angeles College, Los Angeles City College, and Pierce College. So like six community colleges.
As others have said, it should not have an impact. When there’s a series of courses (like science or math) as you mentioned, some universities do prefer that you take such classes at the same university, but other than that, it doesn’t really matter. I had lot of transcripts to send in after I was accepted. I eventually found out that the district now creates one transcript if you attend schools in this LACCD network, so that would have been convenient
