First of all, I've taken each test once, received:

SAT- 1470/1600, 2190/2400, 10/12 essay
ACT- 33 composite, 5/12 essay

I'm definitely going to be using my SAT score, but what I was wondering was what you guys think about whether I should report the ACT. I read somewhere that a 33ACT is more impressive than the 2190 SAT, but what I'm worried about is that the 5 on my essay would turn colleges off.

Opinion? Please and thank you :)

Yes, a 33 ACT is slightly more impressive than the SAT. You should go with both. However, just to be sure, what are your Math and CR scores more specifically?

750 reading, 720 math

Any other thoughts?

The writing portion on the ACT usually matters the least of any of the ACT sections. Some schools do not even require it.

If you wanted to, you could retake the ACT without the writing portion and send that score in. No bad essay to bring you down that way.

But if you do not want to retake the ACT w/o writing, then just send in what you have now.

Congrats - great scores on both.

The essay is given very little consideration at most schools. To be sure, you might want to check each school’s policy since they do vary. Many will just tell you point blank that they don’t consider them or read them, but some do.

In general, I don’t think it’s necessary to retake the ACT due to the essay score. For those few schools where you think it would be a potential problem you can opt to just send the SAT.

Well the thing is, the Essay score on the ACT does not affect the composite overall, so it’s not like the 5/12 essay hurts my 33, but if I send in my score report, they’re gonna see it.

Send them both. Also, did you take Subject Tests? You should be aware that, if you send both, some colleges will require that you also send all your Subject Test scores.

No I haven’t taken subject tests yet, but I’m planning on taking 2 of them soon; just have to figure out which ones.
