Advice on college transition program

<p>DD just got accepted into VA Tech's summer program for incoming freshman engineering students, known as STEP. It will start 2 days after h.s. graduation and run 5 weeks. She will have about 2 1/2 weeks back at home before fall semester starts. She doesn't want to go--it was our idea she apply, not hers. Anyone have any experience/knowledge about this type of program?</p>
