Advice on dorms + does it matter that I'm not in Scholars?

A couple of questions -

Part one:
What’s the lowdown on the dorms? I was told on my visit that south campus is sort of the more happening place, but what about north and west? Are the dorms nicer in any particular area?

Part two: I missed the deadline to apply for Scholars because I initially had very little interest in OSU. Does it matter that I’m not in Scholars? Not to sound elitist, but am I going to be living with not very intellectual people?

The middle fifty percent of freshmen have ACT scores of 26-30. That doesn’t mean most freshmen are intellectuals, but they should be reasonably intelligent. You should be fine even if you don’t do Scholars housing.

I haven’t met a truly dumb student since I’ve been to OSU. The only thing that scholars will do for you is I’ve you priority scheduling. I you come to OSU thinking you’re intellectually superior to everyone else you are in for a rude surprise. The hard workers excel here and some of the smartest people I’ve known were too lazy to make grades here and were kicked out. Just a word of advice…

Sorry for the grammatical errors my phone’s auto correct is a pain in the butt. Anyways, when I was in the dorms I lived in North Campus and loved it. Each hall and floor is different though. I party and go to the bars quite a bit an I still loved north campus. Very close to classes.

1) Both West dorms are AWESOME for forming really tight-night social groups. However, if partying and eating on High Street are important to you, I strongly suggest you apply to only South Campus dorms.
2) The only North campus dorm worth living in is LARH – the rooms are excellent, the cafeteria downstairs is convenient, and the OA’s are helpful. However, if you’re a first-year interested in making friends, don’t live there unless you’re Chinese/International as there are only 2 floors of freshmen, doors are NEVER open, and the upperclassmen tend to be uninvolved losers.
3) You’re better off not enrolling in Scholars; the programming is ridiculous. Maintain a 3.4ish GPA for two quarters and get in Honors. For the most part, if you’re on South campus, not being in an Honors/Scholars dorm will NOT be a hindrance. Rest assured, there will be plenty of Honors students within the dorm and loads of nice people you’ll meet through classes/ec’s that’ll make up for whatever difference you feel.
