Advice on Dorms

I have just received some housing information and was wondering what the dorm reputations are at UMinn. I am planning on going to the Institute of Technology for Biomedical Engineering and was wondering what the IT learning community was like at Frontier Hall. I am also wondering what Middlebrook is like (it looks kind of far from the main campus). Also, what are considered the best and worst dorms on campus.

Thank you

From what I have heard... superblock dorms are the best. I applied based on Living Learning Communities.

If anyone with expierence (I can never spell that word correctly) wants to chime in, we would be ecstatic ;)

Hi, I'm currently a first year at the U and it all depends on what type of experience you want to have. The superblock is loud and there's always something going on. If you want something more quiet you should look into Middlebrook. That's where most of the honors kids live and it's not as social as the superblock. Sanford is on the northside of campus by Dinkytown and is more quiet than the superblock but is really close to frat row, which needless to say is where all of the frat parties are.

If air conditioning is an issue for you, seriously look at the stats on each of the dorms pages at housing.umn.edu. I know it was for me at least. (Super bratty sounding, I know, but at least I'm honest) Other than that, it definitely depends how much socializing/how close to the hustle and bustle you want to be.

As a freshman do Frontier or Territorial for sure. it's a lot easier to meet people your age. apply as early as possible (now). you can always change your preferences. Middlebrook has good food but it's lame. Centennial is mostly singles, so i'd put pioneer #3.
