So, I’m currently taking health as an 8th grader (Required by my school district) I just have a feeling that I should drop it…The class itself is 1/2 credit unweighted, I learned that you can just test out of it or eschool it. Before you ask me whether I like it or not, I’m in the middle…I don’t love it or hate it. Give me some advice!
What would you take instead? Do you just want to drop it because you think you can test out of it and save time? I don’t 100% understand the problem.
If it is an “easy A” and counts in your high school GPA, I’d finish the class. Any A helps, even when unweighted. Sometimes when you test out of things, it doesn’t count in your GPA. If it’s just for a junior high school grade, and you can test out, and it won’t go on your high school transcript either way, then test out if you want. Be careful of e-school, though. Some school districts will pay for it, and sometimes it’s out of your family’s pocket.
First are you even positive you can drop out at this point? know at my kids middle school they simply would not have the option to drop anything now nor would a high school student. If you take it now and it counts for high school you won’t have to take it during high school when perhaps an easy class is still extra work. On the other hand would taking it in high school give you an easy class to offset other harder classes one semester. Even an online class can require work even if it is easy work. Also in some cases the school may only approve an online class for some students such as students entering senior year. Another thought if you have to study to do well enough to test out it could be equally as time consuming as just taking the class. I have no idea what the best thing to do is just throwing out thoughts.
Time really wouldn’t be the issue in testing out. Also, my school has its own eschool program, but I would have to take it over summer as a rising freshman.
If you drop out of the class this year what would you be doing in place of the class?
Most likely PE, (not a credit class) already finished the 4 required semesters.
Then I’d finish health. Save summer for something better.
Just take the class.
I may be lost but in middle school you can finish all your high school gym requirements or are you talking about middle school gym?
Middle School, I’m just going to test out of hs gym req.
This question is purely rhetorical, but in what universe does a school district thinks it’s a great idea for a student to fulfill the 4 required HS semesters of PE in 8th grade? If it’s going to be that meaningless, just dump the requirement.
your lucky - it wouldn’t go over at our high school at all - high school gym must be taking during high school years - middle school years are strictly for middle school - no way to get ahead. You can’t test out of gym - gym requirement is gym basically 5 days a week for 1 semester - the written midterm and final are of no value for testing out. You can’t get out of health in high school either since a test doesn’t replace a 5 day a week requirement here either. Our middle school kids don’t really have say in their schedules.
I would say just take the class unless you know that you are very structured and can study on your own.
