HS Health requirement

So I am a freshman and I am looking at my schedule for the rest of my high school … .and I am thinking, I really don’t have time to cram in health class!

I know the high school offers summer sessions, but the letter from school about summer school specifically says “this letter is being sent to all families; please disregard if your student has not failed or is in danger of failing a course.” I think it’s meant for seniors who are kind of in trouble.

do you have to wait until your senior years to get those requirements out of the way?

I heard a rumor that there is an online course you can take to get it done.

I live in NY state. please share what is your experience is like. Have you attended summer schools prior to the summer before the senior year? Have you take online course? How does it work? Do you have to be on campus to do the online course?

Yes, you can almost definitely do the summer course. It’s nontraditional at some schools, but some students will take a class over the summer to get ahead, which seems to be what you want to do. Be warned though, the class will go super quickly, but it shouldn’t be that hard since it’s health and summer school.

This is something you’ll want to talk to your guidance counselor about.

I just asked my counselor and she told me that only juniors can do it. I don’t want to wait for that long and I know I know I KNOW I won’t have room in my schedule like that. What should I do?!

I took Health freshmen year…didn’t know that that was unusual

yeah at my school you can do it but usually freshmen do not have room in their schedule to take health. I am not going anywhere this summer so I was hoping counselor would let me take the health course online. :frowning: I’m going to try her again - maybe she’s just prioritizing juniors who really have to take it this summer in order to graduate.
