Should I take another class?

Our school requires students take 8 classes, but quite a few people including me have “holes” in their schedule. Essentially, I can get away with having a free period.

Currently I’m taking: (I’m a junior)
AP Chem
AP calc
AP german
Language Arts (Hnrs)
US history
Intermediate piano
Health

Firstly, is this an OK course load? There is no US history honors, and I don’t want to take AP. Health is a required class, but I was going to take it over the summer but changed my mind when it turned out I only had 6 classes. Will health look bad?

Anyways, as for the one “free period”/non-existent class, can I leave it as it is, or will colleges want me to have a full schedule?

All of the classes available in that period are of 0 interest to me…things like Teacher Aid which wouldn’t look great on a schedule either.

I don’t know what schools I’ll apply to, but I want to go to the best university within my reach.

I think you have a great schedule. IMO Health does not look bad. My county is moving to PE/Health all four years of high school with the class of 2017.

Why would Teacher’s Aid not look good? I realize it is dependent on the school but my son does it for an AP class he has already aced. The teacher has become a mentor and is a graduate of his target school and has already offered to write him a recommendation next year. It’s an opportunity to develop a mentor.

You haven’t said what colleges you are hoping to attend. Most schools will not penalize you for only taking seven classes. There are quite a few students who post here who can only take six classes per semester. Good luck.
