Advice on moving forward? ALL CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM APPRECIATED.

Hi all! So I really really messed up freshman year at Villanova with a 2.7 GPA, on a pre-med track. Half-way through first semester I realized I don’t really have a passion/nor am I good at science but decided to go ahead and really buckle down second semester. I ended up with a horrible chem/lab professor who refused to curve exams, and it literally killed my GPA (it was a 4 credit class). So basically med school is OUT the question. Though I definitely could have pushed myself a lot harder both semesters, I did significantly better in my humanities classes and I’m thinking of leaving the sciences to switch to a psych major/english minor. I know I have to really buckle down the next 6 semesters and try to get 3.8 or higher to at least end up with a respectable 3.5 GPA, which I know I’m capable of since I graduated high school with a 3.7 unweighted. The problem is, I really want to transfer out to maybe Rutgers, William and Mary, or ( I know crazy, stupid long shot) UPenn. I like Nova, but definitely don’t love it nor do I see myself staying here for the next 3 years. I am taking classes over the summer and then going to really get my GPA up these next two semesters and apply to transfer for the fall of my junior year.

Is it too late to get my grades up, do I have a chance with an upward trend, and how will these schools judge my freshman year? Other than the fact that I had some major losses within the family which led to moderate depression, there was nothing health wise wrong with me that could explain my horrible freshman year GPA.
Any suggestions or advice? Anything/everything is greatly appreciated.
