advice on SAT retake

i am currently a junior at a very competitive hs in the northeast...
i took the SAT in dec and recieved a 2250. i scored a 720 M, and i feel like i can do better, but then again, i havent kept prepping and my score would probably go down in the other sections as well b/c i did suprisingly well. is it worth retaking them? is there too much of a risk that my score'd go down?

i wouldnt retake. 2250 is great score. spend the time on the sat 2's (if u havent already), or try to do some community service initiative or something

if this was your first shot at it, i'd retake, actually...i had a similar situation--took it as a soph, got a 2220; 730 math but thought i could do better...took it again as a junior and got 2350, 800s on CR and M...for most places you get to list your best score per section, so that's an incentive, but don't get ridiculous with taking it 4 and 5 times.

but still a great score..depends on where you're looking to go. congrats!

2250 is amazing! Good job!

But as with many things, if you truly know you can do better, its always worth a try. Right?

Since you are confident that you can get a better score I would recommend retaking it.

dont know about retaking (up to u really) but just a side note, this kid at my school got 2260 on his first sitting and didnt retake. he ended up getting into caltech (ea) and stanford (as a regular admit). still has harvard, brown, ucla, and ucb left for decisions. bascially, 2250 will suffice as long as you have other stuff going for u.

REtake the damn test.

Hmm, this is kind of a tough one. Though it was my second time taking it, at the end of my junior year I got a 2240 and was unhappy with my lower writing score (710). I decided to retake because that score wasn't on the same level as my other scores...I got a 700 on the writing the past fall (800 CR = 2290 superscore, so it wasn't a total wash). I said to myself that I would prep...but that was pretty much a lie :). So if you know yourself, and know that chances are very low that you will prep, I would lean towards sticking with well enough.

On the other hand, the math section is likely to improve with little prep (or if you just get lucky with the test--more so than with other sections, in my opinion). Sooo...unless you feel like the high scores in the other sections were fluke and will drop a lot, I would guess that a retake, even without prep, would yield a higher math score and thus would be lucrative.

(P.S: this may seem kind of obvious, but if your scores in the other two sections go down 10-30 points, it is really not a big deal AT ALL. Small decreases are likely, but only worry if you think that the scores are going to plummet).
