I will be a sophomore next year and I am really struggling to find activities that I enjoy outside of school. Freshman year I basically dedicated all of my free time to play varsity volleyball, varsity soccer, and varsity lacrosse (I go to a small school, but was still one of the only, if not the only, freshman on each team). However, I ended up overwhelming myself and going to practice and games just became too stressful for me, so I stopped enjoying them. This year I don’t think I could handle another season of any of them, so I’m considering just doing track and field in the spring. I love to go to indoor cycling classes and I could see myself making a commitment to running and working out during the first 2/3 of the year.
Sorry for the long back story, but I guess part of my question is how will quitting affect the way I look to colleges? I understand that I shouldn’t do things just for the sake of looking good to colleges, and that’s why I decided not to put myself through more time spent doing things I don’t love! I guess I’m just scared because I love to be busy and that’s the best way for me to get things done, so I really would like to spend my extra free time on something meaningful and hopefully less stressful.
I volunteer and work closely with one organization and also do the graphic design for all my school’s community service events, so I will try to take on more responsibility there. I’m also considering applying for a job at one of the gyms I work out in. However, I’ve already applied and was denied from about 7 local smoothie shops, but I’m willing to keep trying. I’m considering making a Spanish club at my school because I’ll be in AP Spanish Language and Culture and have recently become very interested in the culture.
Do you have any ideas of clubs that you have heard of that might be fun for me to make? Do you have any suggestions of EC’s that I might have missed giving a chance? Anything that is a good way to spend my free time? Thank you so much for reading and any answers would be greatly appreciated!
