Advice on this Schedule to take Pre-reqs?

Hey y'all,

I'm going to be starting my pre-med journey next month at a university. Psychology BS/Pre-Med Track. Thus far, I've completed Bio I (middle college from my senior year) towards the requirements. Because everything after Bio I and Bio II have a certain math pre-req, I have had to change my order in which I'll take the classes. Any opinions on this will certainly be helpful! Oh! At my orientation last week, they mentioned to us that it is completely COMMON nowadays to graduate in 5-5.5years, while it is UNCOMMON to graduate in 4...so now of course I'm discouraged by that fact.. and this is just for the pre-med reqs, not a complete class schedule.

Fall - Freshman:
~Bio II
~Math 108 (1/3 pre-reqs to Calc, Gen. Chem. etc.)
Total Semester Credits: 17

Spring - Freshman:
~Math 111 (2/3 pre-reqs to Calc, Gen. Chem. etc.)
~Math 112 (3/3 pre-reqs to Calc, Gen. Chem. etc.)

Summer - Freshman:
~Gen. Chem. I
~ Calc I

Fall - Sophomore:
~Gen. Chem. II
~Calc II

Spring - Sophomore:
~Org. Chem. I
~Physics I

Summer - Sophomore OR Fall -Junior:
~Org. Chem II
~ Physics II

With taking those two classes in the summer of sophomore, I figured that would give me the Fall of my junior year to study and possibly a month or two of reviewing before I take the MCAT in the spring of junior. Those math pre-reqs really put me back on what I actually wanted to take. Advice?

Any and all helpful opinions and pieces of advice will be greatly appreciated! :)

Consider taking statistics, psychology, biochem as the new MCAT in 2015 will be emphasizing these areas- there will be less emphasis on organic chem.

Oh yes, of course! I was reading a book about the new MCAT this past week actually. I suppose Biochem & Stats for the Fall of Junior then?

While it may be pushing it, could you conceivably do gen chem 2 and Calc 2 in the summer so that you could start physics, stats, or even biochem earlier? I also believe that sociology might be covered on the new MCAT.

No sir, my college won’t allow a concurrent registration like that from what I can see as of right now. I also have taken Psych 201 and Socio 101 while I was a senior too. After this amount of time, I don’t see the harm in possibly auditing a Gen. Socio class or reviewing over some lectures as prep for the MCAT. One class I would also like to take would be Physiology, but I’m unsure if I would have the time to add that class, along with everything else. I would wait until sometime in the Summer of Junior to take the test, but I just feel as if that is too late.

My friend recently applied after he graduated and has received most of his secondaries already, knowing that he is taking a gap year. I have considered that so everything wouldn’t be so rushed, but I’m afraid that waiting a year after wouldn’t keep the information fresh in my mind and I would end up unprepared for med school…

Have you taken any math placement tests to test out of Math 108/111/112? Math lower than calculus at a university is typically for those with poor high school math preparation, so if you have good high school math preparation, you should be ready to take calculus first semester.

Here are some diagnostic tests to help you assess whether you are ready for calculus:
[Calculus Diagnostic Placement Exam | Department of Mathematics at University of California Berkeley](http://math.berkeley.edu/courses/choosing/placement-exam)

Too many math and not stats or one of the math is stats?
D. took only one semester of stats at college, that was enough in addition to her AP Calc credit from HS.
Do you like math and this is the reason for taking so many math? What are all those non-calc math classes?
Do not take Orgo + Physics in a summer. Do not take anything in a summer, summer is for fun which you will not have later in your life.
