Advice on transfer application to University with two transcripts: one good, one not so good

I will be transferring from community college to University during the spring semester of 2019. I know that a lot of University applications ask for official transcripts from all colleges attended. I’ve attended two community colleges in my academic career: one straight out of high school and the one I’m currently attending. The one I attended right out of high school I, of course, did poorly at, however, I hold a 3.03 GPA at the community college I’m currently attending. In spite of my current grades and GPA, I’ve already been denied from a University due to the combined score of both transcripts. (My overall GPA was brought down to a 2.25).

A little background information: I attended community college right out of high school but had no motivation or direction and, as a result, my academic performance was less than desirable. I attended the first community college for a total of 5 semesters between Fall 2011 and Fall 2014. After my last semester in 2014, I realized that while I had the desire to get an education and knew what I wanted to study there were other elements in my life that hindered my success. Fast-foward two years to Fall 2016, I moved and started school at a new community college. I’m doing well (3.03 GPA) and will be ready to transfer to a University in the Spring. I feel it is important to note that when I enrolled at my current community college I did not transfer any credits from the community college I attended prior (which feels like a mistake). So, my questions: Is there some way around having to submit official transcripts from the first community college? Should I have transferred credits from the first community college I attended to the second? Is there any way to “repeal” the grades from my academic record (essentially my time spent at the first community college)?

TL;DR: Will be transferring to University soon. I have two college transcripts to submit: one good (current) and one really bad. How should I go about applying to Universities to maximize me chances of acceptance?

You are required to submit official copies of all college transcripts. No matter how old. No matter how good or bad. No matter where on the planet you took those classes.

So send both transcripts. Period.

If you are currently enrolled as a degree candidate at your current CC, you were obligated to get your old bad transcript to them when you applied for that admission. If you aren’t a degree candidate there and are just taking classes in non-degree status, them there probably is no problem. However, you should go talk this over with the people in their admissions and registrars office.

Whether you can do any grade recovery for the classes at the first CC is entirely up to them. You need to contact them and ask.

Even after submitting your first transcript at your current CC, the CC will determine whether or not any of the courses can be transferred based on its own policy. It is entirely possible (but unlikely) that none will transfer.

Your best chances of being admitted as a transfer student is if you have completed the requirements of a formal articulation agreement between your CC and that U for your major. Usually these require that you complete an AS or AA degree in that major with a certain GPA. Speak with your advisor and the transfer counselot at your current CC about this option.
