Just looking for some advice on what I should do in regard to transferring to a four year college. I am a 22 year old sophomore in community college. I have been off and on with school since I graduated high school and currently my GPA is around a 3.2. I have recently started to take school much more serious and want to transfer to a school with a good psychology program. I am transferring next fall and wanted to know if I would have a better chance getting into a good school if I finish my associates and transfer as a junior, or retake a few of the classes I didn’t do so well and transfer as a sophomore with a higher GPA. If I finish my associates my GPA would be around a 3.4 most likely, and if I retake classes I could probably bring it up to a 3.6 or 3.7.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
I would get your AA. Several schools I’ve looked at say they won’t accept retaking a class unless it’s within an AA degree. I don’t know how good of a school you are interested in. If you are serious about going to a good school you might want to do both, retake the classes and get your AA. But… realistically I think it would be sufficient to just get your AA and get better grades in the future. But again, I have no idea how good of a school you are aiming to get into.
If you know what specific school(s) you are interested in you could find out their policies and/or even call and speak with admissions people.
It would be best to contact the school you are transferring to and ask them. If you retook those classes and ended up with a 3.6 or above, it would make you more eligible for scholarships that require a 3.5 or above. On the other hand, some schools will give preference to students that have completed their AA.
