I just received my results from the May 5 SAT and I got a 1940 M:670 R:630 and W:640(9E). Should I retake it for an engineering major hopefully to get accepted into a top 20 engineering school. Should I possibly try the ACT?

Try the act and see how you do.you scores aren’t bad but not great if yor trying to get into a top 20 engineering school. Keep in mind that act/sat scores aren’t as important as a lot of people seem to think but get your math score up at least since you want to go into engineering

Thanks oscarlany… What other sort of things should I work on that you think would be important in getting accepted into these schools?

Take some physics classes and advanced math classes and try to get an A on them. If you can, maybe volunteer at a engineering facility around your house (if possible).

It’s very likely you can get your section scores up to 700s, and then you will be set, providing all other factors are in place.

Try the ACT. Although it’s faster paced, a lot of people seem to find that the questions are much easier and straightforward.

Yankee- It depends on what school you want to go to but for any top school you’ll want to have a good gpa and taken rigorous classes. ECs aren’t important but having a laundry list of activities wont help you.

Have some “safety” engineering programs too. It seemed engineering applicants were plenty this year and competitive. Good luck.

thanks guys and I am taking very rigorous courses but would it matter if I take ap chem instead of physics?
