Advice Please

I am going to be a sophomore at Stony Brook University. My GPA went down to a 3.1 because I received a C- in Physics but I am going to retake it over. I am aiming for a 3.8 semester GPA for Fall 2010.
I want to transfer but I dont know which semester I should transfer for. Is it better for me to transfer to Spring 2011 or Fall 2011.
I really want to apply to Cornell and NYU. What are my chances?

Major: Biomedical Engineer
EC:
2yrs research at Harlem Children Society
Secretary of Society of Women Engineers
Member of Cooking Club
Volunteer at Hospital

I would apply for Fall '11 with that 3.8, a 3.1 seems a bit low for those schools, even with with your ec’s. Although I suppose it wouldnt hurt to apply for both.

Thanks for the advice. Lets say i do apply for fall 2011. What are some ways I can improve my chances to get in to the school i want to.

So transfer apps are evaluated on gpa, ec’s, recs and essays. I would focus and ec’s and trying to get into leadership positions in some student orgs. Also, think of a prof or two that may give you a good rec and meet with him every so often or do some research so that when the time comes for you to get your recs, they will have known you for almost 2 years and will write you a good rec. That all I can think of for now since it’s too far off to work on your essay, but I guess you can never be too early. Good luck
