Hi,

I am an Intetnational student and I have applied ED1 to Bates College. I was wait listed from Bates College last year and then rejected.

This year I have changed my essays ( the main one and the Bates’ supplement ) and improved my SAT score ( from ~ 2000 to ~2300 ) and my GPA is 3.5ish. I had applied RD last year and hadn’t taken the interview but this time I’ve requested an interview. And yes, my new essay talks about the previous year, the college rejections and their impact on me. ( I’ll be obliged if someone reviews my essay since I have just activated my application but haven’t submitted the essays yet. )

So have I done enough to improve my chances? Or am I in line for another rejection?

I think its hard to know for sure with LACs whether or not you will get in, because they take a lot into account. They even think about the specific class they want to build, and how many of different types of kids they already have applying, and how many of them they want. So a lot of the times it might not even be your stats alone they consider, but your stats and your personality compared to the other students that happen to be applying that year.

That being said, I think that you’ve probably successfully upped your chances on getting in. Bates takes the interview really seriously, and they even state that not interviewing will harm your chances of getting in. Your SAT score also looks good.

Just for reference, I’m applying ED1 this year, too (although it’s my first time), and I’m also and international student.

Good luck!
