Chances possibly ED2

I have recently been rejected by my ED1 school Colby. I am not terribly disappointed but I am a bit surprised I wasn’t even deferred. My top choices for a while have been Grinnell, Bates, and Macalester. The more research I do though I keep finding so many incredible schools and I now feel like Skidmore and Lafayette would be great fits where my chances might be more realistic for ED. I also have a large list of schools that I’d love to attend RD They’d still be tough but I just feel like I may be totally overshooting after a straight rejection to apply to comparable schools to Colby. Anyway
4.17 W/3.36 UW GPA
2110 SAT(760cr, 690m, 660w
10 AP classes by graduation and six currently.
I really try to explain my family troubles junior year in my common app that led to a grade drop and low UW. I know it’s still a downward trend though and really makes things tough at selective schools
I fostered dogs all four years of high school, HOSA member for 3, first year of best buddies this year but I’m very active and have officer positions.
Also I’m low income with an EFC of 0 and that’s discouraging me a bit from applying to another need aware school. I just don’t have many need blind options though.( almost did Holy Cross ED today. School seems great just felt too rushed). Anyway chances on ED2 and general advise. I might just wait and do everything RD now but I feel as if schools like Bates will be too far off if it isn’t in ED2 already.

You seem like you have a pretty good chance! Great GPA, SAT & course rigor. However I wouldn’t try to write my common app essay about that. I’ve heard that schools would rather hear about those types of circumstances from your guidance counselor!

Thanks for the reply! I might go for it because I’d love to go to Bates and I think I can handle another rejection it wasn’t so bad haha I am from Texas which I though might give me a small boson but evidentially it wasn’t enough for my first try. Also I get what you’re saying but I feel like I wrote a pretty decent essay that shows personal growth. I feel like my struggles last year did help me grow as a person. I’ll try to get more feedback before I submit it again though.

You might want to consider Trinity.

I have! The University and the College but I’m sure you mean the college, It seems great and I know I’ll apply Regular there. Im thinking about if for early too but I have a few hesitations. I was looking at more rural schools in general and I’m not huge on Greek life. I know Bates is in a city too but not as large of one. Honestly though I like the city as well and I bet I’d be happy in Hartford especially with better opportunity to volunteer and get hospital experience. Plus when I checked Greek life isn’t that huge as far as percent of students participating. I mean at least it isn’t Wasgington and Lee size. So really those factors aren’t big. I was also a bit concerned about it being preppy and conservative. The majority of New England private schools are preppy though from what I’ve heard so just because it has slightly more of a preppy reputation probably doesn’t mean much. Plus I live in a pretty wealthy area so I’m used to it. I should probably dress slightly less casual but I’m a pretty casual person as far as appearance haha and I’ve heard it’s conservative on a New England level but not in a comparable to Texas A and M way. At least I hope!
