My daughter received her advisor - the one based on a class selection (she had to list 8 - I am sure there is a better way to describe this but as she is unreachable for another 2 weeks I have to rely on my recall, ha). What is that persons role? Will she be also assigned an academic advisor? Her assigned advisor is a student, her last choice but looks like a great class and we figure Tufts wouldn't use this system if it didn't work.

hah she got a student… thats funny do you know who?

advisors for freshmen are pretty pointless unless a student doesn’t know very basic things (like how to read a course description or bulletin). the advisor is there to sign off on classes and once your daughter declares a major, she’ll have to declare a major advisor who then replaces the automatically assigned advisor that she got paired up with it. that being said, if the student is teaching a class, i wouldn’t be worried. They’re probably super dedicated to tufts and would know more than a lot of other potential advisors. I had a friend get like an office of campus life bureaucrat and she knew nothing.

Thanks so much for the reply. As it turns out, she received an email from her advisor(s) actually 2 students and a professor (who is to be be her academic advisor for first year or so).
