Hey, I've just been assigned an advisor. Same for you? Does any of you think we should talk to the guy before we get there? I mean give him an email or sth...

How were you assigned an advisor? Did they send you something by post or email? I want to know my advisor as soon as possible!

Really? I thought you wouldn't know until orientation. Please let us know how you were informed of this

Nevermind. Log into Axess. Go to Academics. Go to "view advisor"

Mine is an electrical engineering graduate student. Do most people get profs or graduate students as advisors?

I don't know, but I've got a prof... I'm not engineering, though.

I got a European History professor, which is cool because I'm thinking about majoring in history... but I wonder how accessible an advisor who is a professor is, they're probably very busy.

i got an electrical engineering professor...and i'm a humbio major.

how do you know what their position is??

wow, thanks for the info...

i got the executive director of the business school...it seems a little unusual for an advisor, but I did write in undecided and didn't specify any area of interest. I really hope he's good and can help me figure out what i want to do, even if I'm not all that interested in business :/

oh well, we won't really know until we get there who'll be helpful. just keep our fingers crossed, i guess :)

i tried to log onto the courseguide to see rankings, but it just kept asking me to download something that didn't open. anyone else having a problem?

ya courseguide haven't worked for awhile. i've been using ratemyprofessors.com

yeah, courseguide pops up something about golf for me. realllllllly useful.

stanmaster, look them up on stanford people...

Hey, thanks so much for the heads-up! I thought I'd have to wait until mid-August (housing stuff) for interesting info about next year. I'm logging into Axess right now, but for some reason it's taking ages to load.

ETA: I got the director of the Undergraduate Research Program! I wonder how I can find out more about her if I can't use ratemyprofessor (besides email, of course).

I got an IHUM Fellow! I'm (horribly) undecided as well, though I definitely want a humanities major :D

This is exciting! I think I'll drop her a line - what about you guys? You know, just a little 'hello, looking forward to meet you' sort of thing.

thanks, loon_man!

Mmm, I don't think there's anything to be gained from that this early in the summer... I'm just gonna wait for mine to contact me, or for us to meet in September, because it's not like Stanford went out of its way to tell us about our advisor right now anyway. I'm definitely happy to know, though!

How did you find out in what department he is?
Will you guys message the guy or not?

Just search for the name on the Stanford website. And no to messaging.

I sent my advisor a message. It's really up to you. There is nothing to be gained, but it is polite, and being courteous is very important to me.

Now I can't wait for the housing assignments to come out!!

Seriously!!! I wanna be SLE....

[I wasn't saying that nobody should message them, just that I don't think I'm going to...]

Mine is the director of cultural and social anthropology...sigh...nothing to do with what I want to study...but on the bright side she looks nice.
