1st session A1

2nd session, B11

I have my interivew with my AFLO Friday. What consists of this interview and what should I be expecting? Also, is there a certain number of applicants who apply, and never recieve and interview, have i passed the first qualifications? Thanks for the help.

ZN,
I believe that the ALO interview is part of your application package, so I would think everyone would get one.

Every interviewer is different. Our son's ALO asked for us to come with our son to the interview, and we met at a Subway. He really focused on questions about our son's leadership experience. Our son was captain of his swim team, and the ALO wanted to know all about what he did as captain and especially how he was involved in leading the other swimmers. Then he asked about other areas in which our son had been in leadership positions. He asked us if we had questions about the Academy, too.

He said that his reason for having us meet at the Subway with the parents there was that it made for a more relaxed interview...it was more like getting to know someone.

So leadership is the focus, or is it primarliy things you have put on your resume essay? Thanks for the info timely, I greatly appreciate it.
ZN

Leadership was the focus with our ALO. That doesn't mean it will be with yours. The ALO did use our son's essay or list of activities/accomplishments (I can't remember) to ask him about. I'd be sure you can elaborate on everything on your resume. I thought if he wanted to know about leadership, he'd ask our son about his CAP leadership experience rather than the swim team, but he didn't.

When was your interview conducted, and how long after did you, get an invitation?

make sure you know your stuff regarding the academies and the comitments. I had 3 ALO interviews, one with each academy, they all asked pretty much the same questions, regarding leadership, extra curricular activities and how you showed leadership. They don't sit you down and grill you so don't worry. Most of the time was spent just talking about the academy and the experience, and it's pretty much a QandA session.

Just curious...i'm getting the impression that some of you applying for the class of 2010 are already having ALO interviews?? I thought this didn't come until later in the application process usually.

Something else that's been bothering me has been what to ask the ALO. I've done so much research that I think I know a very good amount about the academy. I've talked to cadets...graduates...and done lots of research on my own. I don't want to look like "I know everything" because theres no way you can...but then I don't want to ask pointless questions I already know the answers for.

Zero Negligence,
Our son's interview was in the middle of January. I don't know what you mean by an invitation. Did you mean an appointment? Our son has not received word yet on whether he will receive an appointment. By the way, falconhopeful, the ALO interviews that are occurring now are for the class of 09.

falconhopeful,
We had done a lot of research too, so we faced that same problem. Our son ended up asking if the ALO knew anything about the parachute team, intramural sports, and stuff like that.

timely

Timely,
I am just getting an interview for the Summer Seminar, not an appointment. I am a junior, and I have been told that an ALO meeting is a requirement. I still have one year left till i have to worry about nominations. Phewww! Haha. Thanks you guys, this has been so much help.

I just opened the email--my dd was accepted into the SS. I left a message on her phone--she's going to be so excited! She didn't do an interview though--they emailed her back with the accpetance in less than 2 hours!

Just had my interview. I guess you acceptance into SS is based on a scoring system. If you have enough points from the application online, I believe you are automatically invited. The interview that I had was going to add a score onto my application, and if I have the right score I get the invite. Goodluck to all of you and thanks for your input.

Dd and I chuckled this evening--reading posts about the altitude and the dry air. For SOME of us, it's a DROP in altitude and a rise in humidity! Dd will be going down 2000 feet. ;-)

Dd had not picked a specific session until after she was accepted. They just said she can have session B. Did the rest of you get more info than that? I'm seeing posts about "second session B1" etc.

Heartcross - congrats to your DD first and foremost. As far as the signing of those other people goes, they are saying that last year they were in the first session (Alpha session) and then the ex. "B11" is their element (i.e. Bravo Flight 11th element). It just refers to the group they were in.

well last year atleast the groups were arranged by your last name, in alphabetical order

Did the AFA require immunization records for the summer session. My dd is not fully vaccinated at this time. Thanks!

Didn't need any for the application...don't know if you need them later.
