I am personally insulted by affirmative action. Because of it, society at large looks at my accomplishments and automatically assumes I was given a handicap for being of a certain ethnic background. I don't need no damn handicap - let me fight it out toe to toe against everyone else, and let other people of my own ethnic background do the same. If they are too stupid to succeed, then TOO BAD. That is the nature of a capitalist economy. If you want to be a lazy bum and get a free ride, move to a communist country and see how you like it.

I am tired of the attitude some URM's have towards college. I knew this Native American/Mexican kid that didn't work hard in high school because he could "get in anywhere [he] wants to". He ended up going to a crappy school, but there are also the ones who do minimal work and end up going to Harvard.

I have nothing against promoting ethnic variety at a university. But when you start choosing URM's over other people because they are at a "disadvantage", that's complete BS. Same goes for financial aid.

It all comes down to socioeconomic status. Do you think the white trailer trash kid whose mother is also his aunt has any advantage over the black kid whose parents are doctors?

Don’t let the haters get you down. This is only a big deal because you let it become a big deal to you. If people don’t see you as legitimate, screw them (not literally), and keep on showing what you’re truly worth.

^^ Yeah, I agree. Anyone who goes to Harvard, URM or not, (unless the person paid their way in or is a celebrity) probably did the work to go. If there’s any difference in stats, it’s probably minuscule.

^Why’d you just repost the OP? But thanks, because:

I didn’t notice that line before. So OP, you’re upset that people look at you and make assumptions, yet it’s cool to look at someone who lives in a trailer and call them white trash?

Anyway, what has brought on all the recent AA threads? It’s not even admissions season.

You guys know why ya’ll are so riled up by this? Because you only care about getting into a top school. It’s like the nice guy who blames other people for getting shut down by girls, but is only nice in order to get *****.

Come on, there have to be better goals than getting into Harvard. Like you know, writing a New York Times bestseller or producing an awesome music video.
