Afraid to talk with instructor about grading policies/feedback

I have a dilemma: I have an instructor who has not graded all my assignments for the past quarter, despite “grades” being due last night at 8pm. My grade for the class has posted on our school’s “unofficial transcript” site as well. I am happy with my grade for this class, however, when I check the school website where assignments are submitted, graded, scored, feedback is given, my instructor has not graded 3 assignments for this course. I checked my submissions for these assignments, and I have verified that all 3 were turned in before the due date (for the specific assignment). Normally, I would email the instructor and request that my assignments be graded in a timely manner and that I would like to have feedback on these assignments given that the quarter is now over. However, our instructor emailed my entire class a “policy” a few weeks before the end of the quarter stating: “per my policy, I will not answer any questions about grades via email, phone, or in person, until I post that final grades have been submitted.” I looked at the syllabus for the class, and I do not see this “policy” anywhere. I went to the Executive Assistant for the Vice-Principal of Learning and asked if an instructor is allowed to make that type of policy, 2 weeks before the end of the quarter, and to not have it in writing. They have advised me to email the instructor (despite her policy) and politely explain my issue. I also briefly discussed the issue with my mentor for the program I am in, and she advised me to not contact this instructor because of possible consequences. The instructor with whom I have the issue is the program coordinator, my academic advisor, and will be instructing several classes I will be taking next fall. I know the instructor is very busy, has other life demands, etc., but I feel that I have a valid concern. The college I attend has it in writing that for any problem with grading, an instructor, class issues, etc must be dealt with by talking to the specific instructor for that class.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like you’ve already answered your own question but are hesitant to act. Just e-mail him/her.
