O CMON! 26 views not 1 comment WHERE DA LOVE AT?

in everywhere

apply to some ivies, you'll definitely have a good chance with URM

Yeah, I'd say in everywhere. I don't really see any reason why you wouldn't get in, as long as your essays are decent.

Hmm, I'd say in everywhere but UCB might be a hard one though. good luck.

i don't know much about the UC's cuz i'm from texas but you could get into a lot of top25/ivy schools w/ scores and EC's like that.

The only time I've heard "love" in that context, it meant sprints and ab work that will make you puke.

You sure you just want to stick with UCs? You should look higher (or out).

Well I was thinking of applying to some 7 year medical schools like Drexel, but I don't think that I have the #'s for that. I want to be a doctor in the end, but UCLA is cost efficient and more of a school that fits me. Are you sure that I can make it in to UCLA? and what private school should I apply to/fit me?

You're black and have great test scores. You can probably get into some of the Ivies.

try claremont mckenna if you want a private school in cali..

^ or stanford. also, everyone is saying "in everywhere", but i thought that the UC's did not take race into consideration anymore. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

ps: (i'm not saying that you couldn't get in if you weren't an urm. you have great stats and have a very good chance of getting into anywhere you apply to). also, i agree w/ brosfam, you could get into the ivies.

silly black people, earth is for white people

(strictly kidding)

try pomona. it's a great LAC and u have a great shot at getting in. average acceptance rate is like 20% but for us blacks is about 50.

Pomona????? That's for like valedictorians I doubt I'll get in. Isn't that almost like Harvard status?

The UCs are required by state law to ignore race and ethnic background in determining academic eligibility.

Having said that, I've already estimated naderboy's chances and expect him to get into UCSD, UCI--and probably UCLA. I expect UC Berkeley will be slightly tougher. The main problem he has for the Ivies is his sophomore year's grades. (plus it should be noted that he did not post--and therefore we don't know--his freshman grades).

UCs aren't supposed to use race as a factor, but if they can tell what race you are based on your application, perhaps it can be used. Some people speculate that the "holistic review" adopted by UCLA this year (and already used by Berkeley) is a reason for the increase in minorities admitted this year.

Well, I agree that they are trying to increase minority admissions. Mostly they try to do this by trying to get a greater number of quality minority applicants from across the country to apply. This is one of the reasons the numbers are going up--although I wouldn't doubt that they are also using the "holistic" approach to get a "balanced" classroom of diverse races also.

The UCs (UCLA especially) took a lot of heat last year for the very small number of African Americans that enrolled at the schools. I think the number at UCLA was only 75 black students out of an incoming class of 7,000 or so.

URM status is theoretically insignificant at UCs. The OP's GPA is pretty low (relatively speaking) for the top UCs, but all else looks excellent. Whether or not these schools will take the time to consider grade trend (hard based on only 4 semesters...they can't know which year was the norm) and school (sounds like UCs will definitely be familiar with your high school) is anyone's guess. I'd say that you have a shot at all schools you're considering, but that neither Cal or UCLA (which is known for being rather unpredictable) are definites.

And don't underestimate yourself! Aside from GPA, your stats are all outstanding, and many smaller schools will give closer consideration to details like grade trend (whatever you do, keep this trend going!). Schools such as Pomona (and many LACs, especially) are also eager to increase campus diversity, which should help your application get noticed (and you can be sure that you're already a noteworthy applicant, regardless of race). That said, I would still call Pomona in particular a reach, but not an unreasonable one. If applying to non-UCs interests you, you could also find plenty that would likely offer you merit aid. You might say a little about what you'd like in a college so that people could make guided suggestions (again, if you're interested in a non-UC, which may not even be the case).

Good luck :)

you'd probably have a better chance applying to harvard than to the UC's because of harvard's extreme AA stance (and your high ACT score). that said, i say you are in at all the UC's.

Should I bother retaking my 33 for a 34? or in the long run will that point not make a difference? because another 4 hour test is so killer.
Another thing, I was thinking about (7-8) year premed schools for a really long time, but thought I had no chance so would someone with experience tell me what my chances are for:
U of I chicago:
U of I Urbana:
St. Louis University:
Washintong univsersity in St. Louis.:
Loyola University in Chicago:
Oh and my CUMULATIVE gpa is a 3.39 UCGPA was 3.46, but even though these med schoools say that you should be top 10% of my class how will that work if my school does not do rank?
