African-Americans @ Boston University

African-American Female

I want to know what BUhas to offer for African Americans.
- Admission Advantage? (if applicant meets all standard requirements)
- Financial help?
- Minority Recruitment?
- Special Minority Programs?
- Minority Medical Education?

Anything you can think of PLEASE? I really like the school but my Dad thinks otherwise becuase of the lack of African-Americans . . . but if i can prove bu has a lot to offer maybe he will change his mind.

I also will need a substantial amount of financial assistance.

They probably won’t have special financial assistance geared towards minority students, but if they do not have many minority applicants, being an African American will probably make them work a little harder to attract and keep you (if you meet what they are looking for in an applicant otherwise). That can sometimes mean they will offer you more financial aid or special merit awards, just as they would do with any other applicant that possessed a quality that they felt could strengthen the school.

You might see if BU has a Black Student’s Association with a website and try to contact one of the members. Current students may be able to give you the most realistic understanding of minority life on campus.

I don’t know if it’s common for university’s to have special programs for pre-meds who are also racial minorities, so you might focus instead just on schools that have good pre-med programs.
